Old Enemies, New Faces: Kairn Approaches the Hunters Feb 9/01 (Times are in EST)
|
[20:40] <Kairn_Aquinas> <The offices at Retrotech recieve a call from an unidentified number.>
[20:42] <Kairn_Aquinas> <The caller waits until someone picks up, idly watching a television screen in front of him.>
[20:46] <Sakura_Hunter> <picks up the phone in the office>
[20:46] <Sakura_Hunter> Dr. Hunter here.
[20:48] <Kairn_Aquinas> Well, hello doctor. This is Colonel Aquinas of the United Colonial Army. How are you today?
[20:48] <Sakura_Hunter> I'm doing fine thank you, Colonel Aquinas you said? And what can I do for you Sir?
[20:49] <Kairn_Aquinas> Well, I was just wondering why a fine school such as yours would be promoting the use of mobile suits, a restricted technology mind you, in the interference of official military business. Call me old fashioned, but that sounds to me like treason of some sort.
[20:50] <Sakura_Hunter> Colonel, you are probably best talking to my husband. One moment.
[20:50] <Kairn_Aquinas> Alright...
[20:51] <Sakura_Hunter> <hands the phone over to Cliff> here we go sweetheart, a Colonel from the Colonial Military? <uncertain look>
[20:51] <Herusu_Hunter> [Cliff] Cliff Hunter here
[20:52] <Kairn_Aquinas> Yes, Mister Hunter, this is Colonel Aquinas. Now like I was saying to the good doctor, it seems odd to me that your school is somehow connected with the sudden surge in mobile suit activity, with interference in military activity seeming to be the most often reported.
[20:53] <Cliff_Hunter> Are you saying that some of our pilots are interfering with military matters?
[20:54] <Kairn_Aquinas> It's not so much that your pilots are interfering with military matters, but the fact that your school produces weapons, Mr. Hunter.
[20:54] <Cliff_Hunter> We only produce suits on a private scale, it really is very limited
[20:56] <Kairn_Aquinas> Well, that's nice that you're so considerate, but I think I should remind you that mobile suits are a restricted technology under the laws enacted by government. In fact, you may not have mobile suits unless they are approved and registered by the United Colonial Army. Are you aware of this, Mr. Hunter?
[20:57] <Cliff_Hunter> I was not under the idea that the earth falls under the jurisdiction of the Colonial Army
[21:00] <Kairn_Aquinas> It is a UA treaty that's enacted in joint with both the Earth's government and the United Colonial Army, Mr. Hunter.
[21:01] <Cliff_Hunter> Oh, then I wasn't aware of the rule about Mobile Suits, no one has said anything about it before
[21:02] <Kairn_Aquinas> Well, before making machines of death, I would usually look into such things Mr. Hunter. It is, further more, irresponsible to send out anyone from your school in a mobile suit for any reason what-so-ever. You are basically locking them in their own 9 ton coffin. But of course, you don't care because you would evade liability in the event of their death.
[21:04] <Cliff_Hunter> We currently have no students that hold pilot seats, and we only train those that are going to stay with us as security pilots, they all know the risks and responsibilities
[21:05] <Kairn_Aquinas> Risks and responsibilities? I don't feel that I need to remind you of why mobile suits were introduced in the first place. They are machines made for war. They are not toys to be assigned, and they are certainly not to be in the hands of a rogue corporation such as yours who hides behind the banner of a school.
[21:06] <Cliff_Hunter> Are you accusing us of hostilities?
[21:06] <Kairn_Aquinas> More than that, I'm accusing your organization of treason against your own government.
[21:08] <Cliff_Hunter> We have no intention on using them for any offensive purpose, they are purely defensive for security reasons
[21:09] <Cliff_Hunter> There was an incident that if we did not have the suits we may of suffered extreme casualties to civilians
[21:10] <Kairn_Aquinas> If you are referring to the attack on your school by the unclassified mobile suit, that was more than likely provoked by your own production of mobile suits. I suppose you had never thought of that, though.
[21:10] <Kairn_Aquinas> You waved a steak in front of a hungry dog, then fought it off when it lept on you.
[21:12] <Cliff_Hunter> Don't mean to sound immature or hypocritical here but, there are other companies that have suits and even sell them on the open market
[21:13] <Kairn_Aquinas> Well Mr. Hunter, there is a line to slam your head into a solid brick wall that goes around the block. Are you planning to jump to the back and wait your turn?
[21:14] <Cliff_Hunter> Hey sure, why the hell not
[21:16] <Kairn_Aquinas> This is just a formal warning, Mr. Hunter. If you do not halt production of any weapons at your school and disassemble your current mobile suits under the regulations specified in this report...<A report is faxed to Cliff's office> Then military action will be taken within the next 48 hours.
[21:17] <Cliff_Hunter> Well then, I'm going to go off and find a loop hole now, call back in 47 hours <hangs up>
[21:18] <Kairn_Aquinas> <He also hangs up.>
[21:18] <Kairn_Aquinas> .....Fool.
[21:19] <Cliff_Hunter> <walks into Sakura's office and lays the report on her desk, not saying anything>
[21:19] <Sakura_Hunter> <looks up at cliff questioningly>
[21:19] <Sakura_Hunter> What's this?
[21:19] <Cliff_Hunter> We seem to have a problem
[21:19] <Kairn_Aquinas> He didn't even try to hide the fact that he was producing weapons with nuclear cores. It's that sort of arrogant casual attitude that makes this job worth while....prepare the investigators. We're going on a witch hunt in Salem.
[21:20] <Sakura_Hunter> <looks up at cliff> 48 hours?
[21:20] <Sakura_Hunter> You've got to be joking, can they do this?
[21:21] <Cliff_Hunter> Apparently they can
[21:21] <Sakura_Hunter> <puts down the report slowly> what are we going to do?
[21:22] <Sean_Carver> <A voice rises from the background, and a figure looks to Kairn> So, shall I deal with this little problem?
[21:23] <Kairn_Aquinas> It can wait....for two days, that is...then, we shall certainly show them where an attitude leads to.
[21:23] <Kairn_Aquinas> That is, to the maw of Hell.
[21:23] <Kairn_Aquinas> <Chuckles lightly, then pours himself a glass of water>
[21:23] <Sean_Carver> [Sebastian] <Frowns> Hmph... errand boy. You have me cleaning your messes. The Hunters will be a nuisance.
[21:24] <Kairn_Aquinas> Yes, they certainly are...<Removes a blue capsule from his pocket and drops it into the water. The resulting effect is that the pill disperses into an ominous blue cloud, eventually consuming the water in an azure shade...> But they need to be delt with...I will not have uncertainties like them on my playing field.
[21:26] <Cliff_Hunter> Ok I see that we have a three options: 1, we do what they say. 2, we find a loophole. Or 3, hide our suits.
[21:26] <Sakura_Hunter> Okay, 1 and 3 are a bit extreme...
[21:26] <Sakura_Hunter> What about the loophole?
[21:26] <Sean_Carver> [Sebastian] In the meantime, I've made the arrangements. Once the time has elasped, we'll be ready to rain hell down on them all. No one will question it, since you've just legalized it.
[21:27] <Cliff_Hunter> There has to be something in their government texts we can use to our advantage, every good government and not so good ones atleast have a few
[21:29] <Kairn_Aquinas> Yes, good...the matter now is simply putting the wheels into motion....and it seems that we're taking care of that in two days. <Smiles, drinking down the blue liquid.>
[21:30] <Cliff_Hunter> Spectre I think we might have a loophole for already, it is basically just an old phantom, that is considered a "relic of war" the government has something to protect things like that
[21:31] <Sakura_Hunter> Hmm...maybe we will have to hide them cliff...
[21:32] <Sean_Carver> [Sebastian] Hmph... legalities. Why wait?
[21:32] <Kairn_Aquinas> It gives them ample time to make fools of themselves and make our jobs easier.
[21:32] <Sean_Carver> [Sebastian] Even if they do come through with something, we're grinding them into the dust anyway. But, I see your point.
[21:33] <Cliff_Hunter> Well sense our suits are to promote the past we might be able to pass them all off as relics...
[21:33] <Sakura_Hunter> As museum pieces?
[21:33] <Sakura_Hunter> But what about all our new models?
[21:33] <Sean_Carver> [Sebastian] The executive board of Neo Vulcan is in my back pocket... I've been able to bring out a lot of dirty secrets I've stored up over the years, especially with their involvement in the late Grand Cross Empire.
[21:34] <Cliff_Hunter> People like to honor the past, and since that's all we are doing we might be able to do that even with the newer models
[21:35] <Sakura_Hunter> <nods> I hope so...
[21:35] <Kairn_Aquinas> Good...you know, sometimes I wonder why you aren't the one that's giving me orders, as opposed to the way it is now Sebastian. You seem to be a man of initiative...a good soldier. <Drinks down the rest of the blue liquid> Perhaps some day, hmm?
[21:35] <Sakura_Hunter> I'd hate to see all of our hard work going down the drain.
[21:35] <Cliff_Hunter> <nods>
[21:35] <Sean_Carver> [Sebastian] The files on Operation Juno make scandalous bedtime reading. <chuckles, and notes his comment> Perhaps... I've had my moment, and I happened to like it.
[21:36] <Cliff_Hunter> It'll take some thinking up a way to present this but I do believe we have something...
[21:37] <Cliff_Hunter> Maybe we should try getting a hold of the Carvers and see if Thinline has been going through all of this?
[21:37] <Kairn_Aquinas> You can leave now, Sebastian. You've done a good job with those Neo Vulcan files....and, do me a favor...keep an eye out for the Wrath of Camena...he might be our way of tracking down Endlos.
[21:38] <Sean_Carver> [Sebastian] The boy? Fine. He's got a solid sense of rage. Endlos will prove to be a good target for it. <he turns to leave> Making history again... it almost seems passe, by now.
[21:39] <Sakura_Hunter> <nods> they may not be going through the same thing, however they may be able give us some input.
[21:39] <Kairn_Aquinas> <Nods at the comment.>
[21:40] <Sean_Carver> [Sebastian] <Steps out, and finally, after closing the door> Insufferable fool. <he walks on>
